Dear Dave,
We’re so happy to hear you have a shiny new iPad! Please feel free to stop by and we’ll do our best to find someone to sit with you for a few minutes. Hopefully you will be able to sign up for an upcoming iPad course or workshop – and until then we have great resources on this website like https://seniorplanet.org/how-do-i-download-and-play-games-on-my-ipad/ and others under “Tech Tips.” Happy iPad-ing!
Dear Babsbklyn,
Sorry you missed registration in July. We have some courses starting every 5 weeks, and lots of demonstrations, workshops and other events happening regularly. The best thing you can do is come visit, become a member (if you haven’t done so already) and find out what’s happening that might be of interest to you! Hope to see you soon! Kimberly
Hi Dave,
I’m glad to hear you are interested in advanced computing! Our next session of 10 weeks courses begins in October and registration will take place in September. We don’t yet have a final date for registration but if you are on our e-mail list you should receive notification via e-mail in the daily orbit in early September. In the meantime, feel free to stop by the Center at any time between 9-4 during the work week to use our public computers and participate in ongoing workshops.
Best,
Christopher
Dave
]]>The one for professionals and job-seekers will be similar but also include LinkedIn and some more etiquette tips about social networking.
Our Facebook Fridays is informal and interesting.
Many of our classes are 5 weeks long so if you are interested in the “traditional” social networking course it is likely to start during the next 5 weeks since we’re not offering it this time. There is still room in the Social Networking for Professionals if you are interested! Kimberly
Sorry – all classes are in-person only for the time being. If you have to travel this summer, we’d suggest that you just visit us often (we can help you out with small things) or attend programs and events (hopefully we’ll have a lot of them this summer) and then register for a 5 or 10 week course when you know you’ll be in town. Hope to see you soon! Kimberly
]]>The best thing we can suggest is to come visit us at the Exploration Center and we can help assess the right place for you to be! It’s not an exact science, but the more we know about you and how you use technology, the better we can find a place for you to fit! Hope to see you soon! We’re open Monday – Friday 9-4
]]>Dear Sacraneta Landrum,
Registration opens today, so we hope to see you! We are not hiring staff right now, but we love former students to become volunteers if that’s something you’d be interested in! We’re teaching Advanced computers now, and keep your eye on the calendar because hopefully we will be able to start Excel in a couple of weeks! Kimberly
Dear Joc,
Keep your eyes on the calendar. We’ve already done a few great events with Google and they’ll be back this month too. There are a lot of great people working there who have really enjoyed coming to Senior Planet and doing events for our seniors at their offices. We’d love them to provide Chromebooks but we are not sure that’s possible. You could tell them that when they visit though! :-) – Kimberly
Google’s NYC headquarters is in the neighborhood – Google has lots of cash.
Why can’t they fund a course and provide Chromebooks that students can keep upon completion of the course (or purchase at a steep discount)?
]]>Dear Bonnie,
Thank you so much for your comment! It’s timely as we are currently working on an iPad curriculum to combat social isolation in Washington DC and also developing iPad curriculum training books for Senior Planet and our courses around NYC. We think they’re such a valuable tool for older adults for the exact reasons you described! I would love to talk to you more about our project and share ideas and learn more about your work! If you’d like to contact me please email me at kimberly@seniorplanet.org
There are too many kinds of smartphones to offer a formal course. However, if you have one, feel free to bring it by and our Techsperts can help you out with it! We have 20minute “tech talks” where you can ask your questions, try to set up your email or learn about the things your phone can do.
]]>Yes, all of our courses are currently free! We’re a nonprofit and will always appreciate donations, but we do not charge for our courses. We hope to see you at the Senior Planet Exploration Center sometime soon!
]]>Dear Cori,
We hope to be able to offer evening classes at some point. Of course we know many people work (and we even teach Job Searching in the Digital Age and a Workforce Development class) but we’re a nonprofit and unfortunately we just don’t have the resources yet to be able to extend our hours. We are hoping to be able to do this soon though! Right now we at least have some evening special events, so keep your eyes open for these and hopefully you’ll stay on our mailing list and in touch so you will know when we are able to extend our hours. Thanks for your interest and thanks for writing!
